Lacerte released the new updated Lacerte SDK file yesterday (9/28/2023). Lacerte to date will not wait until the day after the final 1040 deadline to release the new file, does not notify customers of the update, nor provides the new files for the customer's convenience. Customers have to spend time calling and getting the files from support. Last year Lacerte support was not able to provide the files to me, I had to obtain them from SurePrep.
We need to finish the individual tax returns due 10/16/2023 but instead of getting the work out efficiently, we spent a great deal of time yesterday trying to get the work done while our software kept locking up. We spent time opening and closing the software, getting error messages from SurePrep and Office Tools (synced software) which is time consuming and frustrating. We had no idea why everything stopped working and lost many work hours yesterday. We now must obtain the new Lacerte SDK files, give them to our IT to install and wait, as everyone will need to log off the server in the middle our workday at a time when we are under the gun.
Dear Lacerte, please wait until the day after the 1040 extension season deadline to update the Lacerte SDK file for the next tax year and notify your customers to save us the aggravation and time wasted trying to figure out why our software keeps locking up. It's the right thing to do.
