Client Status is a workflow tool for managing returns in various stages of completion. It can help you identify where your clients are in the review process. You can use pre-built status categories for fast identification, or you can modify the categories. The Client Status feature offers up to 20 categories so that you can truly track your clients along each step of the workflow. You can find more information on our support site about modifying and adding a new client status, changing the client status and sorting clients by the status date. #2: Missing Data Utility. The Missing Data Utility feature allows you to flag input fields that are missing information, and then quickly generate customizable emails to clients to request the required data. With this feature, you can jump to the input link to go straight to the input field and quickly enter the data, as well as clear missing data markers with just one click. The feature also allows you to print a missing data report so that you can easily keep tabs on the information missing from your clients’ returns. #3: Filters. Using Client Filters can help you filter your data to help you easily manage and market your tax business. Pre-filters enable you to filter by status, preparer or firm (if multiple PREP files are installed). You can open these filters quickly and easily with the F7 key. Alternately, you can create custom filters based off of almost any data filed in the program. These can include nested criteria, where the query meets any or all of the criteria. You can export data for use outside of Lacerte. #4: E-File Center. Lacerte’s E-File Center provides you with one central location to monitor all e-filed client files for their status. It monitors federal and state e-file status. In order for you to quickly fix the issue and retransmit the return, the E-File Status Column provides a hyperlink to information that may be helpful if the e-file is rejected by the tax authority. The column updates every time your program touches the Intuit servers, enabling you to consistently see the latest status of each e-filed return. We hope these tips and tricks save you time this tax season! Leave us a note in the comments below if you’ve come across any other time-saving tricks in Lacerte.
