Applying manual changes based on H.R.1 (One Big Beautiful Bill) to Intuit Tax Advisor
by Intuit• Updated 3 days ago
Intuit Tax Advisor has been updated to reflect the new legislation passed on July 4, 2025, known as H.R.1 – One Big Beautiful Bill. All tax calculations and thresholds now use the updated 2025 values from this legislation.
Most provisions are automatically applied to all projected tax plans for Tax Year 2025 (TY25), including previously created plans - you can simply re-open your prior plans to see the latest provisions. A few changes, however, require manual input to take effect.
Follow these instructions to manually apply the provisions correctly:
No Tax on Qualified Tips and Overtime
- Open a new or existing plan.
- Go to the Federal Pre-Strategy Baseline tab.
- Locate the W-2 Wages section (using Search or Scroll down) and expand the relevant W-2 activity that you have identified as having Qualified Tips or Overtime.
- In the first data entry box that represents Wages, tips, etc., manually reduce that value by the Tip or Overtime income.
Note: Maximum deduction and income phase-outs are not yet supported. These must be calculated manually. See Sections 70201 and 70202 of the bill for more details:
Senior Deduction
- Go to the Federal Pre-Strategy Baseline.
- Search or Scroll to Standard or Itemized Deductions and expand the section.
- Look for the new row (near the bottom) labeled Senior Deduction. This is automatically calculated if the taxpayer qualifies.
See Section 70103 of the bill for more details.
No Tax on Car Loan Interest
- Go to the Federal Pre-Strategy Baseline.
- Search or Scroll to Standard or Itemized Deductions and expand.
- Find the row labeled Other Deduction.
- Enter the amount of interest paid on qualifying car loans.
Note: There is currently no system-enforced limit on the deduction amount. See Section 70203 of the bill for more details.
You can use the Notes feature in the top right corner to retain your calculations for any changes in income, so you can always refer back to the manual adjustments.
