
Applying the One Big Beautiful Bill changes to estimated taxes in Lacerte 2024

This article will help you:
- Apply these provisions to Lacerte Tax 2024 to calculate next year's estimated tax payments.
- Apply these provisions to the Lacerte Tax Planner.
- Understand the new Diagnostic ref number 61364 "The provisions of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act enacted on July 4, 2025 may have an impact on the 2025 estimated tax for this return. To apply the provisions of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to the estimates calculation, check the box for "Apply One Big Beautiful Bill Act provisions for 2025 estimates" in the 2025 Estimated Tax screen. Please note that any estimated tax payments which have already been made should be entered as negative amounts in the Overrides section under "2025 Estimated Tax (before overpayment is applied) (negative if already paid, -1 if none)."

To apply the changes to Lacerte Tax 2024 for estimated taxes:
An update is available on 8/7/2025 for Lacerte Tax 2024 to recalculate the estimated taxes based on these provisions. Following these steps will also clear Diagnostic Ref 61364.
- Make sure you are on the minimum version for the changes:
- From the Help menu, select Troubleshoot.
- Select the Version tab.
- The 2024 Federal Tax version should be at least 45.0717.
- Go Screen 7, 2025 Estimates.
- Under General Information check the box Apply One Big Beautiful Bill Act provisions for 2025 estimates ("Estimate options" must be set to one of the options which uses 2025 tax).
- Review the entry in Estimates options (Ctrl+T) to make sure 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 is selected. Options 1, 8, 9 and 10 will not use the new provisions.
- If estimated tax payments have already been made:
- Scroll down to the Overrides section.
- On the line "2025 Estimated Tax (before overpayment is applied) (negative if already paid, -1 if none)." enter a negative amount for the amount already paid.
If you have already e-filed the tax year 2024 return with Estimated Tax Payments set up for electronic funds withdrawal, there is not a way through Lacerte to change the payment amounts to the new calculation. See Pay taxes by electronic funds withdrawal for information on canceling the payment schedule and setting up a new payment option with the IRS.
To apply the changes to Lacerte Tax Planner 2024:
An update is available on 8/7/2025 for Lacerte Tax Planner 2024 to estimate next years taxes based on these provisions.
- Make sure you are on the minimum version for the changes:
- From the Help menu, select About.
- The version should be at least 45.0717
- Some changes will be automatic such as:
- Changes to Standard Deduction.
- Changes to SALT limitations
- Child Tax Credit changes.
- To add new deductions available under the One Big Beautiful Bill act go to Deductions/Exemptions tab.
- Under Worksheets, select Deductions.
- Here you'll see a line for the new Senior Deduction.
- Enter any other new deductions under Other Deductions. This includes Tip Income Deduction, Overtime Deduction, and Car Loan Interest Deduction.
