Generating Minnesota Form M1PR Property Tax Refund in ProConnect Tax

For tax year 2024, the M1PR has been redesigned. Use M1PR-SR for Special Refund, use M1RENT, for the Renter's Credit, and the M1PR for the Homestead Credit Refund (for Homeowners).

How to generate Minnesota (MN) Form M1PR starting in tax year 2024:

To generate Form MN M1PR for Homestead Credit Refund for Homeowners:

  1. Go to Input Return State & Local Other Credits MN Household Income/Schedule M1PR.
  2. Complete the Minnesota Household Income (M1PR) section.
  3. Select Statement of Property Taxes Payable from the left side of the screen.
  4. Complete the Statement of Property Taxes Payable section.
  5. Scroll down to the Property Tax Statement - Property Amounts section.
  6. Select the type of property from the Property class drop down menu.
  7. Complete all applicable fields under the Property Amounts and Credits and Property Tax Dollars Allocations (Memorandum Entries Only) subsections.
  8. When previewing the return under Check Return this'll show under State: MN M1PR.

*Note- MN M1PR for homeowners will only generate if the Taxpayer is not a dependent on another person's return, the total household income (line 8) is less than $107,930 and the Refund amount is greater than 0.

To generate Form MN M1PR-SR for Special Refund

  1. Go to Input Return State & Local Other Credits MN Household Income/Schedule M1PR.
  2. Complete the Minnesota Household Income (M1PR) section.
  3. Complete the Minnesota Schedule M1PR-SR, Special Refund section.
  4. Select Statement of Property Taxes Payable from the left side of the screen.
  5. Complete the Statement of Property Taxes Payable section.
  6. Scroll down to the Property Amounts section.
  7. Select the type of property from the Property class drop down menu.
  8. Complete all applicable fields under the Property Amounts and Credits and Property Tax Dollars Allocations (Memorandum Entries Only) subsections.
  9. When previewing the return under Check Return this'll show under State: MN M1PR.

To generate Form MN M1RENT for Homestead Credit Refund for Renters:

  1. Go to Input Return State & Local Other Credits MN Certificate of Rent Paid
  2. Complete the Certificate of Rent Paid section.
  3. Scroll down to the Rental Amounts section.
  4. Complete all applicable fields pertaining to the CRP.
    Note: Mandatory entries to generate the M1RENT are:
    - "Number of units on this property"
    - "Number of adults living in unit (count married couple as 1)"
    - "Rent amount paid in 20YY by individual or married couple renters" (where YY is the tax year end)
    - "Total months rented"
  5. When previewing the return under Check Return this'll show under State: MN.

*Note- MN M1RENT for renters will only generate if the Taxpayer is not a dependent on another person's return, the total household income (line 8) is less than $58,490 and the Refund amount is greater than 0.

To generate Form MN M1PR :

  1. Go to State & Local > MN Household Income/Schedule M1PR.
  2. Scroll down to the M1PR Information section.
  3. Check the appropriate box for Renter, Homeowner, Mobile home owner, or Nursing home resident.

If you checked Homeowner:

  1. Go to State & Local > MN Statement of Property Taxes Payable.
  2. Complete the Statement of Property Taxes Payable section.
  3. Scroll down to the Property Amounts section.
  4. Select the type of property from the Property class drop-down menu.
  5. Complete all applicable fields under the Property Amounts and Credits and Property Tax Dollars Allocations (Memorandum Entries Only) subsections.

MN M1PR for homeowners will only generate if the Taxpayer is not a dependent on another person's return, the total household income (line 8) is less than $107,930, and the Refund amount is greater than 0.

If you checked Renter, Mobile home owner or Nursing home resident:

  1. Go to State & Local > MN Certificate of Rent Paid (CRP).
  2. Complete the Certificate of Rent Paid section.
  3. Scroll down to the Rental Amounts section.
  4. Complete all applicable fields pertaining to the CRP.
  5. Mandatory entries to generate the M1PR are:
    • Number of units on this property
    • Number of adults living in unit
    • Rent amount paid in 20XX by individual or married couple renters
    • Total months rented

MN M1PR for renters will only generate if the Taxpayer is not a dependent on another person's return, the total household income (line 8) is less than $58,490 and the Refund amount is greater than 0.
