Amending a Texas Franchise tax return in ProConnect Tax
by Intuit• Updated 3 months ago
Texas doesn't support e-file of amended returns. Preparers will receive a diagnostic indicating they need to paper file.
Per the Texas Franchise form instructions:
- If an entity needs to amend a Texas franchise report, it must file all pages of the report (as originally filed) along with a cover letter explaining the reason for amending the report. The entity must write "AMENDED" on the top of each page of the report and submit supporting documentation. See Rule 3.584(f) for additional information.
Follow these steps to generate "AMENDED" at the top of each page:
Individual:
- Go to Input Return ⮕ State and Local ⮕ Taxes ⮕ Texas Franchise Tax.
- Select the Amended tab.
- Select the Amended return box, and enter any Tax paid with original return.
Partnership:
- Go to Input Return ⮕ State and Local ⮕ Other Forms ⮕ Texas Franchise Tax.
- Scroll down to the Texas Amended Report section.
- Select the Amended return box, and enter any Tax paid with original return.
Corporate:
- Go to Input Return ⮕ Miscellaneous Forms ⮕ Amended Return (1120X) ⮕ Federal and General Information.
- Put a 1 in 1=amending state return (MANDATORY) and select TX from the dropdown.
- Select TX Amended Return.
- Enter any Tax paid with original return.
S-Corporation:
- Go to Input Return ⮕ State and Local ⮕ Other Forms ⮕ Texas Franchise Tax.
- Scroll down to the Texas Amended Report section.
- Select the Amended return box, and enter any Tax paid with original return.
