Amending a Texas Franchise tax return in Lacerte
by Intuit• Updated 1 month ago
Texas doesn't support e-file of amended returns. Preparers will receive a diagnostic indicating they need to paper file.
Per the Texas Franchise form instructions:
- If an entity needs to amend a Texas franchise report, it must file all pages of the report (as originally filed) along with a cover letter explaining the reason for amending the report. The entity must write "AMENDED" on the top of each page of the report and submit supporting documentation. See Rule 3.584(f) for additional information.
Follow these steps to generate "AMENDED" at the top of each page:
Individual:
- Go to Screen 54, Taxes.
- Select section Texas Amended Report from the lower left sections menu.
- Select the Amended return box, and enter any Tax paid with original return (code 502).
Partnership:
- Go to Screen 43, Other Forms.
- Select Texas Franchise Tax from the top-left sections menu.
- Select Texas Amended Report from the lower left sections menu.
- Select the Amended return box, and enter any Tax paid with original return (code 502).
Corporate:
- Go to Screen 55, Amended Return (1120X).
- Select the return to amend from Federal/state return(s) to amend (Ctrl+T) (MANDATORY).
- Select Texas in the left panel under Amended Return. This will take you to Screen 55.431, Texas Amended Report.
- Enter the Tax paid with original report (code 502).
S-Corporation:
- Go Screen 49, Other Forms.
- Select Texas Franchise Tax from the top-left section menu.
