Resolving PDF Printing issues in 2024 Lacerte

Lacerte 2024 utilizes a new version of the Amyuni Document Converter 650 driver for creating PDF files. We have seen two common issues encountered with the new driver:
- PDFs created do not open, and Adobe indicates the PDF is corrupt or unreadable
- When creating a PDF, the error Printer Not Activated -41 appears
PDFs created do not open, and Adobe indicates the PDF is corrupt or unreadable
The first issue has is caused when there is a pre-existing Amyuni Document Converter 650 driver on the system. To resolve this issue, we will need to remove the current driver, and install the correct one:
- Close Lacerte 2024
- Open the Printers settings in Windows
- For Windows 10: Select Start ⮕ Settings ⮕ Devices ⮕ Printers & Scanners
- For Windows 11: Select Start ⮕ Settings ⮕ Bluetooth & devices ⮕ Printers and scanners
- Select Lacerte Tax PDF 6.5
- Select Remove
- Reboot the computer
- If rebooting the computer isn't possible at the moment, you can stop and restart the print spooler service
- Select Start
- Type: run
- Select the Run program
- Type: services.msc
- Select OK
- Scroll down to Print Spooler
- Right-Click Print Spooler and select Stop
- Once its stopped, Right-Click Print Spooler and select Start
- If rebooting the computer isn't possible at the moment, you can stop and restart the print spooler service
- Open the Print Server Properties in Windows
- For Windows 10: Select Start ⮕ Settings ⮕ Devices ⮕ Printers & Scanners ⮕ At the top-right, select Print Server properties
- For Windows 11: Select Start ⮕ Settings ⮕ Bluetooth & devices ⮕ Printers and scanners ⮕ Scroll down to Related Settings ⮕ Print server properties
- Select the Drivers tab
- Select the Amyuni Document Converter 650
- Select Remove
- Choose Remove driver and driver package
- Select OK
- Select Yes
- Select Delete
- Run the 2024 Lacerte Web Setup to update Lacerte and rebuild the PDF printer.
- Test Printing in Lacerte 2024
- Depending on your computer settings, you may encounter the Printer Not Activated -41 error. See the following section to repair this issue.
Printer Not Activated -41 error when printing to PDF
The -41 error is typically caused by either a missing activation code, or by permissions on the associated registry key. First, License the printer:
- Open the Lacerte Tax PDF 6.5 printer settings in Windows
- For Windows 10: Select Start ⮕ Settings ⮕ Devices ⮕ Printers & Scanners ⮕ Lacerte Tax PDF 6.5 ⮕ Manage
- For Windows 11: Select Start ⮕ Settings ⮕ Bluetooth & devices ⮕ Printers and scanners ⮕ Lacerte Tax PDF 6.5
- Select Printer Properties
- Select the About tab
- Select the ... button
- Ensure the Licensed to reads: Intuit Inc.
- Copy and paste the following code:
- 07EFCDAB01000100CC84AC58B885824C0AA0944C3EE5CADA1509EBEDB6B8ABB65C18E437B187C96F0618BF6D6E67D066FA1CC21967BF
- Select OK
Once the printer has been licenses, correct permissions for the Registry Key
- Select Start
- Type: regedit
- Open the Registry Editor
- Browse to the following location in the registry editor:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ⮕ SOFTWARE ⮕ WOW6432Node ⮕ Microsoft ⮕ Windows NT ⮕ CurrentVersion ⮕ Print ⮕ Printers ⮕ Lacerte Tax PDF 6.5 - Right-Click on the Lacerte Tax PDF 6.5 folder
- Select Permissions
- In the Group or User Names box, select Users (computername\users)
- In the Permissions for Users box, check the Allow box for Full Control
- Select OK
- Close the Registry Editor
- Open Lacerte 2024 and verify printing to PDF is successful
