Resolving PDF Printing issues in 2024 Lacerte

Lacerte 2024 utilizes a new version of the Amyuni Document Converter 650 driver for creating PDF files. We have seen two common issues encountered with the new driver:

  • PDFs created do not open, and Adobe indicates the PDF is corrupt or unreadable
  • When creating a PDF, the error Printer Not Activated -41 appears

PDFs created do not open, and Adobe indicates the PDF is corrupt or unreadable

The first issue has is caused when there is a pre-existing Amyuni Document Converter 650 driver on the system. To resolve this issue, we will need to remove the current driver, and install the correct one:

  1. Close Lacerte 2024
  2. Open the Printers settings in Windows
    • For Windows 10: Select Start Settings Devices Printers & Scanners
    • For Windows 11: Select Start Settings Bluetooth & devices Printers and scanners
  3. Select Lacerte Tax PDF 6.5
  4. Select Remove
  5. Reboot the computer
    • If rebooting the computer isn't possible at the moment, you can stop and restart the print spooler service
      1. Select Start
      2. Type: run
      3. Select the Run program
      4. Type: services.msc
      5. Select OK
      6. Scroll down to Print Spooler
      7. Right-Click Print Spooler and select Stop
      8. Once its stopped, Right-Click Print Spooler and select Start
  6. Open the Print Server Properties in Windows
    • For Windows 10: Select Start Settings Devices Printers & Scanners At the top-right, select Print Server properties
    • For Windows 11: Select Start Settings Bluetooth & devices Printers and scanners Scroll down to Related Settings Print server properties
  7. Select the Drivers tab
  8. Select the Amyuni Document Converter 650
  9. Select Remove
  10. Choose Remove driver and driver package
  11. Select OK
  12. Select Yes
  13. Select Delete
  14. Run the 2024 Lacerte Web Setup to update Lacerte and rebuild the PDF printer.
  15. Test Printing in Lacerte 2024
    • Depending on your computer settings, you may encounter the Printer Not Activated -41 error. See the following section to repair this issue.

Printer Not Activated -41 error when printing to PDF

The -41 error is typically caused by either a missing activation code, or by permissions on the associated registry key. First, License the printer:

  1. Open the Lacerte Tax PDF 6.5 printer settings in Windows
    • For Windows 10: Select Start Settings Devices Printers & Scanners Lacerte Tax PDF 6.5 Manage
    • For Windows 11: Select Start Settings Bluetooth & devices Printers and scanners Lacerte Tax PDF 6.5
  2. Select Printer Properties
  3. Select the About tab
  4. Select the ... button
  5. Ensure the Licensed to reads: Intuit Inc.
  6. Copy and paste the following code:
    • 07EFCDAB01000100CC84AC58B885824C0AA0944C3EE5CADA1509EBEDB6B8ABB65C18E437B187C96F0618BF6D6E67D066FA1CC21967BF
  7. Select OK

Once the printer has been licenses, correct permissions for the Registry Key

  1. Select Start
  2. Type: regedit
  3. Open the Registry Editor
  4. Browse to the following location in the registry editor:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE WOW6432Node Microsoft Windows NT CurrentVersion Print Printers Lacerte Tax PDF 6.5
  5. Right-Click on the Lacerte Tax PDF 6.5 folder
  6. Select Permissions
  7. In the Group or User Names box, select Users (computername\users)
  8. In the Permissions for Users box, check the Allow box for Full Control
  9. Select OK
  10. Close the Registry Editor
  11. Open Lacerte 2024 and verify printing to PDF is successful
