Applying overpayment to next years estimated payments can be done on Screen 7.1, 20XX Estimates (1040-ES). Witihin the State column, enter '6' in Apply Overpayment to 20XX (Ctrl+T or dollar amount) (code 113) and '1' in Estimate Options[O] (code 114). Multi-state returns need a separate entry in these fields for each state.

NJ employee compensation may be higer than Federal because of pension adjustment differences. If this line is reading the fed income incorrectly, use the box 16 input on Screen 10 Wages (State and Local section) to enter the correct amount. No need to source the amount here, the input is state specific. Remove the entry for NJ in the box 1 input.

For extensions filed via phone or agency website, enter the confirmation number received in the designated field. For extensions filed electronically, leave the confirmation number field empty. This is entered in Screen 9, Extensions under the New Jersey Information section using the "On-line federal extension confirmation number" field.

If the amount on Line 13 exceeds $500, the installments should be made using CBT-150. If the amount is exactly $500 or blank, you can choose to make installment payments by selecting either 1 for electing 50% installment, 2 for 100% installment, or 3 for no installment payment on Screen 45.081 under New Jersey Miscellaneous. Alternatively, you can also access the installment payment option by going to Settings, then Options, select Tax Return, New Jersey Options and go to the Installment Payment field.
