In Lacerte, how do you enter California Paid Family Leave (PFL) amounts from Form 1099-G?
How to enter California PFL from Form 1099-G
Per the 2023 California Instructions for Schedule CA (540) for line 7:
Payments received from the PFL Program are reported on federal Form 1099-G, Certain Government Payments. California excludes payments received from the PFL program from taxable income. Enter on line 7, column B the amount of PFL payments shown in column A. For more information, get FTB Pub. 1001.
The amount should be entered as ordinary Unemployment Compensation:
- Go to Screen 14.2, State Tax Refunds, Unemployment Comp.
- Under the Sections panel, select Federal.
- Scroll down to the Federal section.
- Under the Unemployment Compensation subsection, enter the amount as Total Received (1).
