Entering Form 1099-DIV in ProSeries

This article will help you enter form 1099-DIV in an individual tax return in Intuit ProSeries Professional and Intuit ProSeries Basic.

Generally information from Form 1099-DIV is entered on Schedule B.

Follow these steps to enter Form 1099-DIV information on Schedule B:

  1. Open the tax return.
  2. Press F6 to bring up the Open Forms window.
  3. Type B and select OK to open the Schedule B.
  4. Scroll to the Dividend Income Smart Worksheet.
  5. Enter the Payer's Name.
  6. Enter any amounts from box 1a, box 1b, box 3, box 2a, box 2b and box 3 directly on the Dividend Income Smart Worksheet.
  7. If the 1099-DIV contains other information such as foreign transactions, or federal tax withheld, double-click the payers name to access the Dividend Income Worksheet.

Form 1099-DIV box 5, Section 199A dividends, should be entered on the Dividend Income Worksheet line 3 to the QBI Deduction Simplified Worksheet line 5.

Follow these steps to enter exempt interest-dividends on municipal bond interest on the Schedule B, Dividend Income Smart Worksheet:

  1. Double-click on the Payer's Name.
  2. Complete Line C as needed.

Follow these steps to make entries for 1099-DIV, box 12:

  1. In the 1099-DIV section of Schedule B, double-click on the Payer's Name to create an additional information page.
  2. When the window comes up, select Create new copy and type in the payer's name.
  3. Select Create.
  4. Locate Line C.
  5. Enter the amount from box 12 in Line C1.
  6. Make an entry in either C2 or C3.
    • You may only enter one of these lines.
  7. Enter the applicable state code in C4.
