Entering dividend income from Form 1099-DIV in Lacerte

This article will help you enter income from Form 1099-DIV income in the Individual or Fiduciary modules of Intuit Lacerte.
Follow these steps to enter the information from Form 1099-DIV for an individual return:
- Go to Screen 12, Dividend Income (1099-DIV).
- Under the Dividend Income section, enter the Name of payer.
- Under the Form 1099-DIV section, complete the following fields:
- (1a) Total ordinary dividends (code 2)
- (1b) Qualified dividends (for exceptions, press F1) (code 30)
- (2a) Total capital gain distributions (code 3)
- (2b) Unrecaptured section 1250 gain (code 25)
- (2c) Section 1202 gain (code 26)
- (2d) Collectibles (28%) rate gain (code 24)
- (2e) Section 897 ordinary dividends (informational only)
- (2f) Section 897 capital gain (informational only)
- (3) Nontaxable distributions (code 4)
- Refer to Entering Form 1099-DIV, Box 3 for more information.
- (5) Section 199A dividends (code 122)
- This input isn't available in tax year 2017 and earlier. Box 5 was Investment Expenses noted on line J.
- (6) Investment expenses (code 5)
- This is box 5 in tax year 2017 and earlier.
- Under the Tax-exempt Interest subsection, complete the following fields:
- Certain private activity bonds (6251) (% or amount) (code 504) (box 12)
- This is box 11 for tax year 2017 and earlier.
- Certain private activity bonds (6251) (% or amount) (code 504) (box 12)
- Under the Tax Withheld subsection, complete the following fields:
- Federal income tax withheld (4) (code 10)
- State income tax withheld (code 11) (box 13)
- This is box 12 for tax year 2017 and earlier.
- Scroll down to the Foreign Tax Credit section, if applicable, and complete the following fields:
- Foreign income tax withheld (U.S. dollars) (code 16) (box 7)
- This is box 6 in tax year 2017 and earlier.
- Name of foreign country (code 818) (box 8)
- This is box 7 in tax year 2017 and earlier.

- Go to Screen 16, Dividend Income.
- Under the Dividend Income section, complete the following fields:
- Name of payer

- (2a) Total capital gain distributions (code 3)
- (2b) Unrecaptured section 1250 gain (code 25)
- (2c) Section 1202 gain (code 26)

- (3) Nontaxable distributions (code 4)
- (5) Section 199A dividends (code 122)
- (6) Investment expenses (code 5)
- Under the Tax Withheld subsection, complete the following fields:
- Federal income tax withheld (4) (code 10)
- State income tax withheld (code 11) (box 15), if applicable
- Under the Tax-exempt Interest subsection, enter any applicable fields:
- Certain private activity bonds (6251) (% or amount) (code 504) (box 12)
- Scroll down to the Foreign Tax Credit section, if applicable, and complete the following fields:
- Foreign income tax withheld (U.S. dollars) (code 16) (box 7)
- Name of foreign country (code 818) (box 8)
