Generating a notice concerning fiduciary relationship on Form 56 in Lacerte

Lacerte won't generate Form 56 unless you check the box for Print with tax return.

You can also turn the option on globally in Settings > Options > Yes on Show Form Help Icons in Forms Tab.

For individual returns:

  1. Go to Screen 65.1, Notice Concerning Fiduciary Rel.
  2. Select the box labeled Print with tax return.
  3. Enter all applicable information in:
    • Identification (Part 1)
    • Authority (Section A)
    • Nature of Liability of Tax Notices (Section B)
    • Revocation or Termination of Notice (Part 2)
    • Court and Administrative Proceedings (Part 3)

An informational diagnostic will generate reminding you that Form 56 can't be e-filed with individual returns, and that you must paper file the form separately. We recommend you turn on filing instructions for this form using these instructions:

  1. Go to Screen 5.1, Invoice, Letter, Filing Instr.
  2. Scroll down to the Filing Instructions section.
  3. Mark the checkbox labeled Notice Concerning Fiduciary Relationship (56).

The filing instructions will tell your client where and when to file.

For estate returns:

  1. Go to Screen 38, Notice Concerning Fiduciary Relationship (56).
  2. Select the box labeled Print with tax return.
  3. Enter all applicable information in:
    • Identification (Part 1)
    • Authority (Section A)
    • Nature of Liability of Tax Notices (Section B)
    • Revocation or Termination of Notice (Part 2)
    • Court and Administrative Proceedings (Part 3)

For fiduciary returns:

  1. Go to Screen 62, Notice Concerning Fiduciary Rel. (56).
  2. Select the box labeled Print wiht tax return.
  3. Enter all applicable information in:
    • Identification (Part 1)
    • Authority (Section A)
    • Nature of Liability of Tax Notices (Section B)
    • Revocation or Termination of Notice (Part 2)
    • Court and Administrative Proceedings (Part 3)
