by Intuit Updated 2 months ago
  • This article references default installation paths and uses YY to reference the tax year in 20YY format. C: will always indicate the local drive and X: will always indicate the network drive.

This article explains how to resolve the following network error when opening Lacerte:

2.4 access violation
2.5 access violation 00961d5b in wYYtax.exe
then
20YY Lacerte tax for windows has encountered a problem and needs to close

To resolve this error:

  1. Rename PROFXO and PROFLOG files from the OPTIONYY Directory
  2. Clear out the urn folder in the OPTIONYY folder for the system file path
  3. Attempt to launch the program again

If the issue persists, try renaming the .ini file Lacerte uses:

  1. Close Lacerte.
  2. On your keyboard, press the Windows key and R to open the Run prompt. Type %appdata% and click OK.
  3. Open the Lacerte folder.
  4. Find the file named wYYtax.ini. The .ini extension may not be displayed.
  5. Right-click that file and select Rename. Add -old to the end of the file name and hit Enter.

If the above steps don't solve the issue, visit this article.
