Form 114 Fatal Errors vs Accepted with Errors in Lacerte
by Intuit• Updated 3 months ago
Unlike most other e-files, Form 114 has 3 different results. It has the typical Accepted and Rejected statuses, but it also has an Accepted with Errors status. This is due to two different types of errors we receive back from the BSA.
- Fatal Errors are errors that will prevent the return from being accepted, and result in an e-file rejection.
- File errors will not cause an e-file rejection, but indicate there is information in the filing that may be inaccurate. These will appear as Accepted with Errors in Lacerte.
Since fatal errors result in rejections, you can correct the rejection and e-file the form again as you would for other types of returns.
File errors don't cause an e-file rejection, so you will need to correct them by amending the 114 and e-filing a corrected form. See Form 114 Amending and E-File in Lacerte
You can review the errors in the BSA Electronic Filing Requirements For Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts. Errors begin on page 38, page 47 in the PDF file.
