Exception occurred when attempting to e-file return in Lacerte

When e-filing in {ProductName}, you may receive the following error message:
"Exception Occurred Attempting to Process E-file(s) for client {Number} ATEExceptionMessage: Processing efile payload request for efileId {FormName}"
This message appears when a form is selected for electronic filing but hasn’t been generated in the return. In you can confirm which forms are marked for e-file and generate them as needed before you transmit the return.
Cause
This error occurs when a form is checked to be filed electronically on Screen 1 > Electronic Return, but the form itself hasn’t been generated in the return.
Tip: On the Forms tab, forms that are generated appear in bold. If a form isn’t bold, it isn’t generated and can’t be e-filed.
Forms that can trigger this error include, but are not limited to:
- Federal
- Form 114 (FBAR / FinCEN Report)
- Benefit Plan Form 8955-SSA
- New York
- Individual Form 1127
- Individual Form IT-214
- Individual Form IT-204-LL
- Partnership Form IT-204-LL
The exact message text may vary by form and return type.
Fix the error
If you do not need to file the form
- Go to Screen 1 > Electronic Return.
- Uncheck any forms that you don’t need to e-file.
- Recalculate or refresh the return before transmitting again.
If you do need to file the form
- Open the form input screen and complete all required fields so the form generates.
- Confirm that the form appears in bold on the Forms tab.
- Retry e-filing after saving the return.
