Exception occurred when attempting to e-file return in Lacerte

When trying to e-file in , you may receive the following error message:
“Exception Occurred Attempting to Process E-file(s) for client {Number} ATEExceptionMessage: Processing efile payload request for efileId {FormName}”
Forms that can create this error include but not limited to:
- NY Individual Form 1127
- NY Individual IT-214
- NY Individual Form IT-204-LL
- NY Partnership Form IT-204-LL
- Federal Benefit Plan Form 8955-SSA
This error occurs when the form is marked on Screen 1 to be filed electronically but the form isn’t generated in the return itself.
If you need to file the form, it must first be generated. Once it has been generated, the form name will show in bold on the Forms tab.
If you do not need to file this form, please review the entries at the top of Screen 1 under the Electronic Return section and uncheck any forms that you do not need.
In summary, your options to solve:
- Uncheck the form that is selected to be e-filed under the Electronic Return section of Screen 1.
- Generate the form so that it shows in bold on the Forms tab.
