
How to enter your EFIN, PTIN, and ERO PIN into ProConnect Tax

This article will help you verify or enter your EFIN, PTIN, or an ERO PIN. If these are not entered, you may recieve one of the following diagnostics when efiling:
- 2885 (ERO PIN)
- 34482 (ERO Contact Name)
- 3917 (Designee PIN)
- 2914 (EFIN PIN)
- 51071 (PTIN)
How to verify your EFIN
To check whether your EFIN is registered to your account, select , then select Firm Information.
- If your EFIN is incorrect or not verified, you'll need to submit EFIN verification.

How to enter your PTIN:
- Select

- Select Preparer Information.
- Select the preparer name you need to edit.
- Enter the PTIN you received from the IRS. It should begin with a capital P.
- Select Save.

How to enter your ERO PIN:
An Electronic Return Originator (ERO) PIN is a numeric representation of the preparer's signature used on Form 8879. It's not assigned by any taxing agency, but rather self-selected. It can be any 5-digit number other than all 9's or all 0's. Refer to IRS Pub. 1345 for more information.
- Select

- Select Preparer Information.
- Select the preparer name you need to edit.
- Enter your ERO PIN. This can be any five digits except all zeros.
- Select Save.
To enter the ERO contact name:
- Select
.
- Select Preparer Information.
- Check the DEFAULT option for the preparer assigned as the default ERO contact.
To verify your PTIN:
- Select
.
- Under YOUR FIRM, select Preparer Information.
- Select on the preparer name you need to edit.
- Check the PTIN Verification box.
These steps are required to clear the error "e-file: Please verify that the PTIN has not changed from prior year. (ref. #54810)."
