Stop an e-file return
by Intuit•1• Updated 5 months ago
Once a return has been e-filed from your tax software, the electronic return can't be stopped, changed or pulled from the e-file system. There isn't a way to prevent the return from being processed by the taxing authority.
You'll need to wait until an Accepted or Rejected acknowledgment is received to determine how to proceed.
- If the return is Accepted, an amended return will have to be filed. See here for how to amend an Indivdiual return, and here for a Business return.
- If the return is Rejected, the return can be corrected and resubmitted electronically.
