Having the first name and middle initial field as one input causes issues in a few places. It would be better if the program differentiated.
For example I have had the following issues:
With a client name like Mary Anne J. Smith it makes her name on state returns Mary A. Smith which is incorrect. My concern with taking the space out is twofold 1) does this create an issue with name control on the fed efile and 2) clients don't really like to see their name spelled incorrectly on their tax returns.
I had a similar issue on a partnership return where I had a client with a name like D. Michael Scott and on the tax matters section it showed them as D. Scott.
