The name field is limited to 40 spaces.  For  foreign clients sometimes that is not enough.  Especially if inputting the name of a foreign trust (Form 1040NR).

Thanks for the idea to expand the name field to more than 40 spaces. We are changing the status to "Open for voting" since it has been around for over 30 days and no longer considered "New".

Just enter the first 40. IRS doesn't care.

Level 7

The IRS does not care, but the clients do. Also between taxpayer and spouse, it is hard to decide which first 40 chars to input.

Is this the IRS limitation or the software?

This is not an Intuit restriction, it is an IRS restriction. E-file does not support names that long.
