by Intuit• Updated 3 days ago
Follow these steps to open an E-Organizer sent from a tax preparer:
- Click on the link provided in the e-mail from Tax Organizer Administrator .
- If the link doesn't work, copy and paste the entire URL into your web browser.
- The link provided in this e-mail is not an embedded executable file (.exe), but a link to a secure server where you are downloading the executable file. This is a very secure process and has passed very rigorous security reviews.
- Click Save.
- Save the EOrg2024.exe file to your Desktop.
- Double-click on the EOrg2024 file located on your Desktop.
- Enter your Password.
- The password will typically be your 5-digit zip code + the last 4 digits of your SSN.
- If you file jointly with your spouse, it may use the last 4 digits of your spouse's SSN based on how the preparer entered your information.
- Click Continue.
What if the taxpayer is not on a Windows computer?
Just like Lacerte, the E-Organizer doesn't support non-windows computers. If your taxpayer is is using an Apple/Android tablet, or a MAC/Linux computer, here are some common workarounds:
- Open the E-Organizer on a PC using a supported Windows operating system.
If the user has access to computer running Windows, they can download the E-Organizer with that computer.- Caution: Since the E-Organizer contains the taxpayer's information, they should avoid computers that are used by a large number of people.
- Use a PDF of the paper Organizer.
You can send PDF organizers via email.- This information can't be directly imported, so you will need to manually enter the information after receiving the organizer back from the taxpayer.
- Use Intuit Link.
Similar to a PDF version of a paper organizer, you can use Intuit Link to send your organizer questions to your clients. This will allow them to complete the organizer electronically and upload their W-2 and other documents for you to access.- At this time, Intuit Link doesn't offer the ability to import information into Lacerte, so the data will need to be manually entered.
- Run Windows emulation software.
Apple computers typically have built-in Windows emulation such as Parallels Desktop. On other devices, users may be able to use Virtual Machine software, however they may have to purchase a Windows license key.
