Hey @sjrcpa and @BobKamman, thanks for chiming in—really appreciate the input! @sjrcpa, I had a feeling Form 3115 might be a beast for a newbie like me. I was hoping it’d be a quick plug-and-play thing, but it sounds like I’d be in over my head without some help. Definitely don’t want to mess it up and end up with a bigger headache later. I’m leaning away from skipping it now—audit risk or not, I’d rather not roll the dice and find out the hard way.

@BobKamman, that’s hilarious about IRS auditors maybe not even knowing how to do a 3115! Makes me feel a little less clueless. Still, I get the vibe that playing it safe is the smarter move here, even if it’s tempting to just gloss over it and hope for the best. Those recapture taxes are no joke either way, right? I’m thinking I might bite the bullet and get a pro to handle it—anyone got a ballpark on what that might cost for something like this?
