My client has not received a W2 from their employer . They have the final paystub but has no federal id or state id. The ex employer cannot be reached.

You wouldn't get it from the IRS anyway.
Try looking the company up at the state corporation registration site (Secy of State/Attorney General).
Some states may have this info.

It was defunct yesterday when I originally answered. We didn't mention defunct today and I only read the new post. But I'll go on record that I do have a bit of CTE going on from the anvils. I'm donating my brain to science once I'm gone --------------------- assuming they can find anything when they go looking for it 🤕
