For efiling, just keep copies pf the signed 8879 in your file and efile. No upload needed.
For paper returns you have to send the original signed form-not a copy.
The more I know the more I don’t know.
Is this still the case now in 2026?

For 1040 paper returns, yes still true.
For other paper returns, IRS allows some to have a computer signature instead of wet. Somewhere on irs.gov they have a list.
The more I know the more I don’t know.
