The original return was filed and we will file a superseded return hopefully within a day showing a reduced refund. Anyone have any idea if the proper amount will be refunded, or if the larger amount that was initially requested will be refunded and the taxpayer will need to pay the difference?

It will likely take the IRS 6-8+ weeks to process the superseded return. So most likely, they will receive the original refund in the meantime.
