Is it possible to pay less than the tax due when efiling? I only see one option "Electronic payment of balance due."

It is possible. When you post a question like this, include the type of return.
For the 1040 Misc. Info/Direct Deposit - click Miscellaneous in the middle tab - Scroll to Form 1040-V and put the amount in the next box.
Answers are easy. Questions are hard!
