I checked the initial return box in the ProConnect program, but it won't flow through to the 7004 partnership extension form, and it keeps getting rejected by the IRS because it's a short tax year.

If 2017 was a short tax year, you need to make the following entries under General/Miscellaneous Information
- Initial return: Check the box; and
- Number of months, if short tax year: Enter the number of months
