Are they filing a joint return? If so, just for refund of withholdings and ES-tax?

HUH? Mike and Jennie are married. Mike is still a dependent of his parents. Can Jennie be a dependent on her boyfriend, John's tax return? Is that sort of what you are asking?

It's Monday. It's tax season. It's Intuit. It could be a plethora of things.

Didn't the teacher at the mind reading class say we need to be able to pick out that one thing from all of those many thoughts people have on their mind to be successful?

Sorry everyone for the mind reading exercise. They are filing a joint return. Yes, they want refund of withholdings and possible AOC for husband. Married end of year. Husband is NOT a dependent. Wife is Dependent on parents return. I can't find a way to enter the spouse as a dependent only the taxpayer as dependent. What am I missing?

Thanks for the responses and patience. I figured out that they cannot file MFJ while the spouse is being claimed on her parents return. They have to file Married Filing Separate, which also means no AOC.

Now we know why tax professionals charge so much to do a tax return, even for "simple" ones.
