I have a client who is wanting to file 2017-2021 returns. Does anyone know how far back I can e-file without having to mail them in? I know the e-file opens back up on 1/24/22, but how far back can you e-file after it opens? He's a Tennessee resident so it would be just federal.

You can file the current year plus two. In other words, 2021. 2020 and 2019. Anything else has the be mail via "snail mail".

Beat you by 8 seconds. But close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.😁
