I have Never done this before but in error I put the wrong account number for direct deposit what happens to the refund when it goes to the bank.

Assuming the acct number you input doesn't belong to someone else's real account, the bank will bounce it back to IRS, who will then issue a refund check and mail it to the address on the return.
But what if the account is someone elses
Lisa is right... Furthermore you may also want to call the bank, it doesn't hurt does it?
