I had e filed a return in which the client was entitled to Stimulus Recovery Credit due to decrease in income 2019 vs 2020. I then went back to return and 1040x return appeared showing that the credits were subtracted "after" efile of return. Any idea what is happening.

It's a glitch. Nothing was changed on the return. The system is just giving you a wonky message.

Its not a 1040X, and its just a bug that rode in on the update 2 weeks ago...you can ignore it.
