i forgot to check that the son was a dependent of his parents and his parents cann't file because of this. is 1040 x the only way to correct this? can anyone give me any help with this . it would be greatly appreciated.
The parents are going to have to file on paper, too. Even when you amend the son's return it will take a long time for the IRS system to recognize that he was not claimed as a dependent.
