I start on the refund and work backwards.  It does involve a lot of overrides, but my clients always get what they want that way.

I have been doing taxes for 46 years.  Started with a Form 1040, #2 lead pencil and a calculator.  I still prefer to enter info as in prior years, start with the 1040 and then just click on the lines that need info.

I start with inputting grain alcohol into a glass. Funny, the more I do, the bigger the refund gets.
