The due date for federal 1040 is today for my client, but ProSeries won't efile it. Says the IRS and states wont accept until Jan or early Feb of 2021. What gives? I see a Dec 21st shut-down date online.

There was a special extension for people in Iowa affected by the derecho this summer. Extended to Dec 15th.

Then it needs to be mailed. As was mentioned, the IRS e-file system for 1040s shut down a few weeks ago.
And you may want to remind the taxpayer that the original due date was April 15th. Then the IRS extended it to July 15th. Then the taxpayer extended it to October 15th. Then the disaster extended it to December 15th. Did they really need to wait until this late to get their information ready?

If no money is due, consider waiting and efiling it in January. It will get processed faster than the mailed paper return.
