I have tried to e-file a 2018 and 2017 New York State amended returns, but I get an error stating that the electronic filing season for this agency is closed and I have to paper file. Anyone know what is going on? Since it's an amended return, of course it's after the tax filing deadline.

As a side note, only 2019 amended returns are allowed to be e-filed..

IRonMaN's answers apply to individual tax returns. Is that what you have?
The more I know the more I don’t know.

I think some state amended returns have been able to be amended for a while, so maybe New York is one of those.

Can I add another layer to my conversation? I have a corporate (1120) that I need to e-file by December 15th). Fiscal year end 2/28. Can that be e-filed or will I need to paper file that return?

That one can be e-filed. Business e-filing is still open for a couple of more weeks.
