Earned income is based on what you earned, from working.

Or from being married (which, can be work...) - alimony used to be considered earned income. I'm not sure if it still is since TCJA

Well that's what I thought too, but ProSeries got #3,526 EIC.
MFJ.
One child.
Joint earnings were $22,809.
AHHHHHHHHHH. I was looking at single. Her husband died this year and I thought of her as single, but we had that last year to file MFJ.
