In other words, it depends on why people are donating. Are the payers receiving anything in exchange for the payment?

I think I see the answer in this thread. Just to confirm:
Woman (my client) husband passes in 2020. A gofundme is set up to help her financially, nothing is received by the gofundme donars in return for their donations" to my client. The gofundme receipts are not taxable as income to my client correct?
