Thanks for the help so far.

I have now completed all the work for one JOINT California RDP return, and two SINGLE federal returns, with income split according to Community Property rules.

I have e-filed the two federal Single returns and attached Form 8958 to each.

The final hurdle: I want to e-file the Joint California RDP return--but it got rejected, with this message:

“California Individual: The federal return failed final review. We recommend you fix the errors found in Final Review and reselect the return for conversion. Return conversion failed.”

What do I need to do to e-file the Joint California RDP return?

I of course do NOT want to e-file the federal mock-up MFJ return.  How can I get around this?

Thank you!

you need to have that joint return you used to create the CA RDP be complete (get rid of errors), which seems silly since you're not filing the federal as a joint return,

Hi Lisa,

I appreciate you very much!  --

But I still don't understand.  I do not want to e-file the federal joint return (of course).

So how do I get that federal joint return to California?

Or how do I get California to accept my e-filing of their CA RDP return without the federal return?

Are you saying there's some way to submit the federal return to California without submitting it to the IRS?

I just don't understand. Thanks so much.

get rid of any errors on that joint Federal return, but keep it unchecked for Efiling.

The only error on the federal return is that it's not checked for federal e-filing.

But I still got the error message when I tried to e-file the California State.

  • “California Individual: The federal return failed final review. We recommend you fix the errors found in Final Review and reselect the return for conversion. Return conversion failed.”

Can anyone confirm that it really is possible to e-file a California RDP return?

If it is, how can I get around this?

Thank you!

On your Federal (fake) return, do you check the box for e-filing?  (No, right?)

Due to confidentiality rules I cant do that, sorry.  Maybe an Inuit employee can look at a Sanitized file for you?

@IntuitKate or @Kathi_at_Intuit  is this possible or should they go through the Support phone number?

I understand.

I finally got through to ProSeries support, and (I think) found some success. The operator found an error message I had not seen. So now I'm praying that the e-file really was accepted.

Thanks much to everyone who responded.
