Dependents do not have protection ID. so the rejection does not make any sense to me.

Looks like a dependent CAN be issued an IPPIN

.Maybe you have a blank ghosted space in the Dep IP PIN space in the dep worksheet.

I have the same problem; I received an IND-996 rejection notice. Where do I enter or delete the "Dep IP PIN", in which form? I search my return and there are only two IP PIN fields (which have always been blank) on our married-filing-jointly tax returns. You mentioned a worksheet - I thought worksheets were not included in the tax returns, so how do they obtain the "Dep IP PIN" information, which is the reason for the rejection IND-996? Thanks in advance for your answer.
