Yea, if you wanted an extension past the 5/1 disaster due date, you needed to EFile it by 4/15.
Now your only option is to mail it.

Remember just last month the preparer who was complaining the program would no longer allow him to file extensions late? That is truly a program enhancement that is needed now with the several states and the May 1st filing date.
Does anyone think the paper extension forms are going to get accepted without issue? I would bet a case of Fireball someone here is going to have a problem with it. I have a FL and SC return both of which I need to put on extension via paper.
BTW, at irs.gov the extension option on the pulldown has also been removed.

Because "the system" has to follow IRS instructions.
"The IRS urges anyone who needs an extension to request it electronically by April 15, 2025. Though disaster-area taxpayers also qualify to request a tax filing extension between April 15 and May 1, 2025, these requests cannot be filed electronically. They can be filed only on paper using Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return."
