My Virginia client married in 2024. Spouse resided in SC until they married when she moved to VA. I have read that if you reside in VA for 183 days, you are considered a resident for tax purposes. On their SC tax return, I am trying to file jointly; the non-resident return is really only for the spouse; if I enter the dates of residency and mark that it is the spouse only, the dates carry over to the taxpayer too which is not true. How do I get around this. Any ideas would be helpful and appreciated.
