I am encountering an issue in ProSeries when trying to file a joint return for a U.S. citizen who is married to a Jamaican citizen who has applied for a US Social Security Number (SSN), and they also have a dependent stepdaughter who doesn't have an SSN either. How can i get around this issue since the US SSN Has been applied for.

Thanks so much for your reply. I read somewhere else that I could apply for an ITIN for both the husband and stepdaughter in order for Proseries to Efile. Have you heard of this option?

Haven't heard of it. To the best of my knowledge you need a number in there somewhere to e-file, but I have never dealt with someone with an ITIN so I'm far from being an expert on the subject.

It's been a long time since I've had one of these.. . My recollection is efile or paper-file claiming exemptions on an "applied for" basis flat out didn't work. We ended up filing the TP as single and then amended when the SSNs were issued.
