I had a client come to my office and he told me that he used the MAZA app to obtain an ITIN, he said there was no need to file a tax return or mail in a passport, they just do an identity verification on the app. I was investigating but there is no information on the website about them being connected with the IRS. Does anyone know anything else about this app?

Sounds fishy or phishy.
Does he have an official IRS letter assigning the ITIN?
The more I know the more I don’t know.

A quick Google search returned this:
"What is maza ITIN?
They can't apply for loans, so they can't build a credit history. That's why Maza, a fintech dedicated to financial inclusion, built a better way. By helping immigrants secure an individual tax identification number (ITIN), Maza can get their customers a U.S. bank account and Visa debit card."
There is a website Get your ITIN | Maza
The more I know the more I don’t know.

Yes, he brought his official ITIN letter, we filed the tax return electronically and it was accepted.
