If my client didn't claim their (student) dependent for 2020, but is claiming them for 2021, will the dependent have to pay their economic impact payment back to the IRS?

Did the student file on their own for 2020 to get the stimulus? Ive seen reports of IRS disallowing the RRC for the dependent on the parents 2021 return in this situation.

Yes, they did file as not being able to be claimed as a dependent. That's what I'm also hearing. But I can't find anything that verifies it.
