They checked their bank account, they didn't receive the 3rd stimulus.
and they didn't get a check in the mail (this person keeps good records).
So I added the recovery rebate credit to their 2021 tax return.
then the IRS denied the credit.
Their income qualifies them, so how do we go about tracking that 3rd payment or getting to the bottom of this?

Otherwise use Form 3911 and trace that missing EIP payment, see where it went.

Follow what Lisa says but I have yet to have a client be right in this situation. They all swear it was never received but when I make them go look again (and again) it is there. I now know how many of my clients do not even know what a bank rec is . . . .

I don't have a huge client base but 100% of my clients who told me they did not get EIP3 (and for whom I was expecting an EIP3) found it when they checked their bank statements, online banking, mobile app, called the bank, etc.
