You aren't referring to entering the amount in (e) on the 2441 are you? That's not for HHE unless you also check the box. You have to enter the amount in (e) to match the amount entered on the Federal Information Worksheet

the program seems to be forcing me to enter an amount and check the HHE box. Neither of which are applicable.

Does the client have child care expenses? If yes, then an amount has to be entered in (e).

If the client doesn't have child care expenses - try deleting the form Ctrl+W
