I tried to efile my partnership extension multiple times however each time it was rejected by the IRS. Now I have learned that the client gave me the wrong EIN. Do you think the extension will be accepted now if I try to efile it tonight?

Like 5 days late? You can give it a shot, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I would print the electronic filing history report (in EF center click on the file, then right click), before I changed the EIN # and tried anything else. At least you will have that documentation to use as your backup when you plead for the one-time forgiveness for this. I tend to believe they will forgive you. But I would try to file the return ASAP to prove your sincerity.

Print the entire Federal and State return. PLUS print your log showing that you attempted by the due date to submit.. and give them a clear explanation of the mix up in the Federal ID Number. I am quite sure as long as you give them the backup showing the wrong number was used and refused and the date shows on that log.. they will accept the forgiveness and it should be fine. If you don't submit the letter of explanation then there could be an issue.
