Estate has been filing on calendar year basis. Can the final 1041 include 15 months (Jan 2021 to Mar 2022) or do I file 2021 + short year for 2022?

You would file 2 - I guess you could call it a long and a short.

There was a prior post many years ago on this. The practitioner reply was if the last two months of the estate were non-income producing and just closing out the checking account then there would be no harm in filing one return. Obviously wouldn't work if income items or distribution deductions took place.
