A prospective client came to my office today and told me that he hasn't filed for years. He also told me that he had received a letter from the IRS saying that they didn't recognize him when he did try to file. What should I do?

Answer: First, figure out what years need to be filed. If out of statute, no refund will be issued. Then start preparing returns....

Second option - it's the middle of tax season, he hasn't filed for years. Do you really want him as a client and if so, does he really go to the top of the pile when you have folks that timely file every year wanting to have their returns prepared ASAP.

You can ignore the folks that need a 7203 or a 8915-F. 🤣

If you do take him on after April 18 you get a large retainer first.
The more I know the more I don’t know.
