Lacerte does not generate a statement to indicate what expenses are included in "Other" on Line 30 of Form 8825. Is there a way to force a supporting statement to generate—other than attaching a PDF (since there is no option to link the statement directly to Form 8825) or using Notes? Neither of those options produces a reference on Form 8825 directing the reader to the additional information.

Can you share what module you're in, and include some screenshots showing your inputs? That would help me replicate this to troubleshoot it better and advise.

Also, stepping back, why do you need more detail showing on the returns? If the client provided the data, I imagine that if they inquire, you can reconcile it for them to prove it out, but I wouldn't imagine that the IRS or states are requesting more data in the efile.

I'm in the partnership module and I am referring to both Line 17 on Form 8825 and Line 30 on Form 8825-A.  Neither line references a statement detailing what is included in the the total.

My input is nothing unusual. I simply provided the data in the appropriate fields on Screen 17.

The information is required by the IRS, not my client.

So I'll concede that I don't do pship returns, but I'm trying to help you troubleshoot this. I threw some dummy info in Screen 17, put in two "other expenses" items. Sch A for 8825 isn't populating for me. And I am getting a statement for 8825 line 17. I also don't see a diagnostic about providing more information for the IRS. Maybe other users will be able to chime in, but if not, I expect you'll need to call Support for help on this one.

Already spent three hours on the phone with Lacerte.  In all that time they could just tell me that Schedule A is needed with Form 8825 when M-3 is required. They did not explain why they are no longer generating a statement detailing miscellaneous expenses.  In my client's case, "other expenses" were many thousands of dollars, so I am concerned about filing the return without a supporting statement.

Got it, so yours must be a high income client to have an M-3 which is why mine isn't generating that Sch A form. I'd add an 8275 disclosure statement and/or then make your own statement in the "Notes" screen.

I did add my own statement. It wasn't the best solution, but it will have to do if Lacerte is unable to fix this.

Thank you for your help.

Have you read the directions for the Schedule A? As I recall, they don't want a statement for the other expenses..

The more I know the more I don’t know.

I would expect the IRS would continue to want the detail for Line17 on the Form 8825 (main form).  For a rental property that has to file an M-3, the amounts on this line many times total to over $1M. Have they removed that requirement for M-3 filers?
